This gorgeous home was built in the 1840s and cleverly marries up its historic elements with a sophisticated modernity. An exposed stone wall, timber and stone floors, and fireplaces give stylish warmth, while the renovated kitchen and bathrooms ensure comfort. The property boasts direct views of the Harbour Bridge from the back of the house - from the balcony and all the windows facing that way - a perfect place to celebrate New Years Eve.

Enter the property on the ground floor into the more formal lounge. With two comfortable sofas, a fireplace and stunning artworks, this exudes a designer touch. Behind this living area lies a generous study with twin desks, perfect if this is a work related trip. On this level there is also a balcony that looks down over the internal courtyard below.

Head downstairs to the basement level where light floods from the void above. The internal courtyard with a table and chairs and climbing plants is wonderful for morning coffee or evening drinks. It separates the kitchen and dining room from the second living area. The European style laundry cupboard, with a washing machine and dryer, sits neatly in the corridor running beside the courtyard.

The kitchen is sleek and well-equipped, and provides everything you’d need for an extended stay including a dishwasher and microwave. The dining room has a delightful ambience with its original exposed stone feature wall. The second lounge room is more relaxed, with an indoor-outdoor feel afforded by its timber sofas and travertine flooring with jute rug, and it has a wall-mounted TV.

This level also has a powder room and stairs up to the back of the house on the ground floor, where the second bedroom sits. It has a double bed, built-in robes and an ensuite with shower, vanity and toilet.

The third attic bedroom is up the stairs from the master bedroom, also with a double bed, a shower ensuite and storage cupboards. It sits in the roofline and has a characterful sloped ceiling.

On the first floor at the front of the house, accessed from the original stairs near the formal lounge, is the generously sized master bedroom with a Queen bed. With plenty of wardrobe space and a large ensuite with bathtub, shower, vanity and toilet, this has the luxurious feel of a hotel suite. All linen is provided. The front of the house has the classic feel - whereas everything from the kitchen back was built in 2009. It makes for a beautiful blend of historic and modern architecture.

Although there is no parking on site, there’s little need for a car in this central location, but there is some on-street parking and a Wilson car park nearby.

Local Area

In an absolute plum position, this property is right in the heart of Dawes Point, just 400 metres west of Sydney Harbour Bridge stairs. Its location offers a fabulous opportunity to get to know this iconic area as a temporary resident rather than just a tourist, and what an area it is!

Eating out is almost a must when staying in this area as you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to restaurants. From fine dining to iconic pubs, waterfront gems to basement bars, there are no end to the options so make sure your stay is long enough!

Cultural exploits are also on your doorstep. The Roslyn Packer Theatre and the Sydney Theatre Company’s Wharf One are both world-renowned and you’ll need to make sure you book ahead to see a play. See Sydney from up high by doing the Harbour Bridgeclimb and wander down to Sydney Observatory to enjoy a night tour of our skies.

Enjoy walking? This is the place! Explore Barangaroo Reserve, walk across the Harbour Bridge, wander the historic roads around this locale, or head through the Rocks, along Circular Quay to the Opera House and the Botanic Gardens. It’s all just so stunning.

For some retail therapy, there are many boutique stores around the Rocks and along George Street, and of course the weekend brings the famous Rocks Market which has its own unique flavour.

The world is your oyster from this terrific location - take advantage and enjoy exploring, and when you’re tired, head back to the elegant and relaxing Windmill at Dawes.
